Glossary: Camcorder
1 Lux minimum illumination minimum
illumination requiremnt before using night shot
1 Mega Pixel Image device high
resolution image device for capturing vidoe images and still
photographs
10 x Optical Zoom Zoom lenses operate
with many glass elements that are moved into different arrangements as you
push the zoom button. Changing the space between glass elements changes
the focal length. This system is called optical zoom because the focal
length is changed using the actual glass lens elements. A 16:1 zoom will
bring objects 16 times closer than what you'd normally see.
120 x Digital Zoom Digital Zoom
increases the standard (optical) zoom by 2x, 4x or even 12x. This is done
by digital memory and thus a very high zoom may cause unwanted grain or
noise to appear. Digital zoom function can be switched off if
necessary.
2 Mega Pixel Image device High

photographs
2.5" LCD For easy viewing whilst
recording and on-the-spot playback.
20 x Optical Zoom Zoom lenses operate

3" LCD For easy viewing whilst
recording and on-the-spot playback.
3.5" LCD For easy viewing whilst
recording and on-the-spot playback.
3CCD Camera System Charge Coupled
Device, a semiconductor chip which coordinates hundreds of thousands of
photosensors to turn a picture into electronic signals. The higher the
number of pixels, the more information can be 'seen' by the CCD chip.
500 x Digital Zoom Digital Zoom
increases the standard (optical) zoom by 2x, 4x or even 12x. This is done
by digital memory and thus a very high zoom may cause unwanted grain or
noise to appear. Digital zoom function can be switched off if
necessary.
7 Lux Minimum illumination (excl night
shot) Minimum illumination requiremnt before using night
shot
700 x Digital Zoom Digital Zoom
increases the standard (optical) zoom by 2x, 4x or even 12x. This is done
by digital memory and thus a very high zoom may cause unwanted grain or
noise to appear. Digital zoom function can be switched off if

Colour Viewfinder Enables the user to
view in colour, as opposed to black and white, making filming easier and
more natural.
Digital Video Out Allows still images
to be downloaded to a PC.

only terminal allowing for a real-time data transmission of video picture
without any loss of digital data. Suitable for Home AV and PC environment
it will be a link to the future.
Image Stabiliser Reduces camera shake
whilst filming. Especially useful when on maximum zoom.
Manual Focus Ring Useful to keep
picture in focus when there's insufficient light, subjects are of low
contrast etc. and also to create a very special focusing effect in the
